What is Spring Rec. Season?
PQ Softball is a recreational girls softball league that focuses on developing fundamental skills, promoting sportsmanship, and fun. Spring Rec. league is open to all skill levels for children between the ages of 5 and 14. Your league age/division is determined by the age of your child on January 1 of each year.
How long is the Spring Rec. Season?
The spring recreational season starts with player skills evaluations and team formations in January. Note that players in T-Ball do not need to attend the skills evaluation, but all other players (8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U) must attend the skills evaluation. Practices will begin in late January / early February with games starting shortly thereafter. An end of season tournament usually occurs towards the end of April/early May. There is usually a one-week break that coincides with the Poway Unified School District's Spring Break.
Where are practices and games?
Most activities for Spring rec league are held at Canyonside Park, but teams may also use Views West, or Black Mountain Ranch Park.
You can find maps for all of our fields on our website.
How are teams formed?
All players in all divisions, except T-Ball are required to assessments prior to the season. Teams are typically formed through a draft with every effort to ensure the teams are balanced with sufficient pitching and catching where possible. Buddy and/or manager requests can be made, and while we will try to honor them where possible, we cannot guarantee the requests will be honored.
What are player assessments like?
Players are evaluated on hitting, fielding, throwing, and running. Drills can include hitting off a pitching machine, fielding grounders or pop-flys, throwing the ball, and baserunning. Player assessments are typically held the first or second weekend of January.
