Winter Select Season
Winter Select is a more competitive version of Fall/Winter Rec. Ball. The Select program was developed by USA Softball to allow high-performing girls time to practice and/or play games together. Teams are formed by tryouts and play during the winter off-season (after Fall/Winter Rec. Ball) through the beginning of April. To play on a Select team, you must be registered and participate in the upcoming Spring Rec Season.
Some additional notes for consideration:
- Select teams require an additional day of practice or game(s) per week.
- This is typically from late fall/early winter through the end of March (Select season dates are set by USA Softball).
- The additional day of play will usually be on Sundays.
- USA Softball SoCal Select events in January may occur over two days since leagues normally have not started league play.
- There may also be more than one day of play per week before January 1st.
- A select team may not have more than four travel ball players on a team.
- A player must participate in at least 75% of her recreational games to maintain eligibility for the select program.
- Participation in the select program DOES NOT GUARANTEE your daughter will be selected and/or play on an all-star team.
- PQ may field more than one Select team in an age division, however, there are no gold vs. silver distinctions. All Select teams play in the same pools for USA Softball tournaments.
Select teams are not for everyone. The purpose of this program is to teach, demonstrate, and practice the higher-level strategies and situations of the game.
Since our foundational mission as an association is developing young athletes, we believe in providing an opportunity and the fair assessment for all to show what they can do on the field. If your daughter is committed and willing to work hard while sacrificing early Sunday mornings and/or afternoons, she will be considered to develop and hone her player skills as a Select player
